It’s the month of February and as always, love is in the air and Cupid is shooting his arrows all over the place. The V&A has everyone covered this Valentine’s; from romantics, singles and those that love Valentine’s month but are stressed out by it because they can never quite figure out what to get their better half. If you can relate to the latter then we’re here to help. Flowers, chocolates, jewellery and cologne are the obvious choices but we’re thinking something different this year and we have great gifts and date advice catering for various relationships and personalities. After reading this, your partner will be calling you the Valentine’s Day hero of the year, has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Well read on:
Hey big spender
This is the type of girl or guy who appreciates the finer things in life, the crème de la crème as they say. Gift wise, you could go with an expensive watch and or perfume but we’re sure you did that last year. How about a beautiful keychain from either TedBaker or Mimco? Or you can pop by Spirit Jewellery in the Watershed, for unique jewellery pieces. For a sprinkle of added romance, we’d suggest a picnic on Table Mountain with Cape Town Helicopters and a dinner at Dalliance to end off the day with great food and the best view.
Oh so quirky
Quirky personality types can be quite tricky; as grounded to the earth as they are, quirky characters love unique items; here, you can go with a bottle of really good wine, pop by Vaughan Johnson Wines or maybe a notebook from Poetry, Tea merchants teapots and accessories are just perfect for when he or she’s reading that great book you bought from Exclusive Books. Don’t forget Toe Porn happy socks. A trip to the museum is a sure way to make your quirky human super happy on this day. Make a pit stop to The Polynesian Pearl Diver for pre or post museum drinks and relaxation and for an element of romance, a movie at Cinema Nouveau will be the cherry on top to the perfect evening.
Adventurers are adrenalin junkies and appreciate breath-taking experiences. A Go-Pro from Digilens would be the best gift to capture all these amazing moments and experiences. Make a stop at Cape Union Mart for a backpack or the easy to carry sling bag and at Hey Gorgeous in the Watershed for the best in skincare products, a practical gift to help keep the adventurer moisturised during their many travels where they are faced with weather conditions that aren’t always pleasing. On the topic of adventure, as a date, we’d suggest making it a day of fun and adventurous activities such as booking a ride on the Cape wheel, followed by NAC’s helicopter ride with a Shark Cage Diving Transfer and a sunset cruise for something calming.
This is a couple who’ve just been struck by Cupid’s arrow; both parties are still trying to get to know each other. Getting a gift for the new person in your life doesn’t have to be an intimidating task; the Body Shop has an amazing variety of products for both guy and girl, add a box set from Musica to the list and for interesting and unique gifts visit the Watershed’s Heart at work. Date wise you could keep things simple with casual drinks at the Car Bar or hire AWOL bikes to take a tour of the V&A, top it off with a quick lunch at the Hot Dog King food truck and end off the night with dinner at the Comedy Club for good food and a good laugh.
There’s a lot to see, do and buy at the V&A this Valentine’s Day, package a variety of treats, gifts and experiences for your own version of the #VandADateBox for that special someone and share with us.
