Balmain x H&M

It could be considered as rather cruel of us to feature the Balmain x H&M collection here, what with all the rumours of fist fighting and other such rage-filled impressions that lingered across Social Media airwaves after the collection took around one hour to fly out of H&M at the V&A. In the blink of an eye, every last velvet blazer and bodycon dress was gone. The disbelief was such that one of our Twitter followers even thought that our brand new H&M flagship store had never received the collection. But it most certainly did and it was those lucky few who were queuing from as early as 4am who managed to get their hands on a piece (or three) from this coveted collection.

“Queues for the collection reportedly started in Seoul over a week before the launch, while in London police were called in to deal with the baying crowds. Scenes included women engaged in a tug of war over one piece, and another having to be restrained by security as she attempted to climb a display and remove a dress.”Dazed

For those of you who didn’t know, the collection is a collaboration between the multi-national retail giant that is H&M and luxury Parisian fashion house Balmain. Balmain’s Creative Director Olivier Rousteing describes Balmain as “being about tradition and technique but also youth and the new generation” so pairing up with a brand that is so connected to youth and giving them an opportunity to own a Balmain piece for a fraction of the price was, quite frankly, an absolute win.

“At just 30 years old, Olivier Rousteing has captured a new celebratory mood in fashion, connecting followers all over the world who dream of living the Balmain lifestyle. Balmain is famous for its exquisite embellishments and embroideries, strong-shouldered silhouettes and effortlessly cool style.”H&M

Rousteing says that “when you wear Balmain, you feel powerful, like a warrior of the world” so for those of you who managed to get your hands on a piece, well done fashion warriors! But sadly, for those who didn’t, all we can remind you is this…

“Sometimes fashion just isn’t fair!”
