Drink O’clock at the V&A

The start of a new year is always an exciting time but it can also bring on quite the mad rush; like transitioning into work mode and getting the kids ready for school. After you’ve checked off everything on your to-do list maybe it’s time to unwind with an easy drink at the below day drinking spots at the V&A Waterfront, it is still summer after all and we have everything to suit every kind of mood, palate and personality.

New and interesting concepts:

The Car bar
Set beneath the newly revamped quayside terraces, the Car Bar offers the perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks. The vibrant set up showcases a combination of classic cars and also offers a range of classic drinks from cocktails (who doesn’t love a pink drink?) to Craft Beer, and spirits. The tapas menu guarantees the perfect fix for that peckish appetite.

Polynesian Pearl Diver
Located on the deck overlooking the Cape Wheel (outside ocean Basket) FYI, the perfect spot for people watching, this retro Rum Tiki (exotic) bar offers a twist to the usual take on cocktails and bar culture. Drinks are fruity with no sparing of rum – we love generous bartenders. The food is simple with Pupu platters and fingerboards. The Polynesian Pearl Diver is the perfect setting for a lazy summer afternoon and for letting out your inner hippy.

Upbeat drink spots to set the pace for your evening out:

Life Grand Café – Bringing some JHB blood into the mother city, this new scene offers an extensive beverage list within a setting that brings you cutting edge interior and décor design with the views to match. Set on the pierhead, the heart of the V&A, Life Grand Café not only promises tantalising cocktails but your afternoon soiree can easily transition into dinner with the crew. Chef Janelle brings you various genres of cuisine – so there’s something for every palate.

Grand Café & Beach – With 5 bars sprawled across the beach, this is the perfect spot to sink your toes into the sand this summer while enjoying their range of cocktails or spirits or both. (Guess who’ll be going home with an Uber) From the Tanqueray infused cocktails to vodka recipes – you’ll be spoilt for choice. Also boasting an impressive Mediterranean inspired menu, your balmy afternoon can easily turn into a vibrant dinner while the DJ for the evening dials up the vibe with sounds of EDM!

A drink amidst the calm

Dalliance – whether it’s a pit stop during your shopping, or literally an attempt to dodge the in-laws, Dalliance offers a peaceful respite with sweeping views of Granger bay.

Ginja – Here you will rub shoulders with friendly tourists sunbathing on the decks of the restaurant, while enjoying the happening of the working harbour and possibly the best views of the mountain.

Vista Marina – What used to be the Shoreline Café on the marina facing side of the Two Oceans Aquarium has now been transformed into a dining haven. From a varied drinks menu to an extensive tapas and main menu, Vista Marina offers a luxurious experience – whether you’re craving something moreish or a few nibbles, this new trendy spot will not disappoint.

Mar-e-sol – New hotspot on our pierhead, Maresol, is not only known for its scrumptious seafood fare, but the views, hustle & bustle of the V&A pierhead and quayside. Enjoy a glass of champagne on the deck or upstairs overlooking the water’s edge and cruise boat scene.
