Get Fit

There is nothing like a new year to kick one’s butt into shape. For some, it’s a short-lived resolution, albeit set with the best intentions. For others, it’s part of a continuum from the year before but because it’s still Summer (and most of us are recovering from many a festive binge), it’s a chance to drop a gear and really put foot.

So, how can we help you? We have a few fitness offerings in our backyard, yes we do.

The 5km Running Route

A few years ago, our Executive Manager of Operations Colin Devenish (who also happens to be a keen runner), mapped out a running route through the V&A. There were a couple of people who used the property for running already but we had never quite acknowledged it in an official sort of way or openly invited people to consider the V&A for such a purpose. Let’s just say more people want to sit back with a cocktail in their hand when they come down here as opposed to racing around the place, unless of course it’s from sale to sale. But now folks, one of the country’s most picturesque running routes can be found right here. It wouldn’t even be unfair to call it one of the most picturesque in Africa. Wait, let’s not stop there either… It is one of the most picturesque running routes in THE WORLD!

What most people don’t know is how utterly magnificent the harbour is at the crack of dawn, when there are very few people roaming through our public spaces. And public spaces that are still safe so you can even run on your own. It’s equally as beautiful at sunset. Bliss!

SUP

There are still a surprising number of people who don’t know that SUP stands for Stand Up Paddle. That is probably because you’d have to be sort of mad to go out on that giant board thing, without a wetsuit, knowing freezing water is right there beneath you, relying on nothing more than balance to keep you upright or your possibly non-existant abdominal wall to pull you back onto the board if you end up horizontal and in freezing cold water. However, those who participate in the sport LOVE it and cannot recommend it enough. In fact, it is one of the fastest growing watersports at the moment. Adrenalised Boardsports Surf and Paddle Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) instructors are at your service 365 days a year offering SUP lessons on our tranquil and scenic canals. Not only is is beautiful but there is zero wake so you can learn with ease. To find out more, click here.

Cycling

This is an easy and fun one for the whole family at the V&A. You can either book a tour through AWOL Tours who are based at our Info Centre, or you can rent a bike from UpCycles on Clock Tower Square.

And last but certainly not least…

Looking the Part

This is of course not everyone’s area of focus when it comes to fitness but there is nothing wrong with having your trainers match your t-shirt. Nothing wrong at all!

When it comes to activewear, we are definitely not in short supply. We have the best of the best in Totalsports, Nike, PUMA, Adidas, Cross Trainer, Country Road, Cotton On, H&M, Woolworths, RVCA, Athlete’s Foot and our newest activewear store, Lorna Jane.

And that is that.

Okay guys, now that you have the lowdown, let’s get physical!
