Keld Mikkelsen takes us through his new DAY store in Victoria Wharf

It’s rumoured to have been a rainy day in Copenhagen when Day Birger et Mikkelsen was established in 1997. In 2016, the Danish brand boasts over two dozen stores in Denmark, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Norway and South Africa.

Soon after our store opened its bespoke space to the public on the first day of spring, we sat down with Keld Mikkelsen (the brain and heart behind it all) to find out what it’s like inside the latest and the most beautiful DAY store (we’re bias) in the Southern Hemisphere.

The finishing touches to Shop 269 in the Upper Level of Victoria Wharf are one part modern, merged with ethnic influences that complement its classic elements—all of this echoes in everything that you’ll see on the golden rails.

Mikkelsen describes Love Everyday as a line that would be the building block for what you would pull out of your wardrobe on a normal day. ‘Other silhouettes help you complete your outfit in a way that speaks to your special taste. You could even pick an item that has embroidery or print with an ethnic-inspired aesthetic,’ his trained fashion eye suggests.

Ahead of the plans materialising into the finishing touches that will make you want to spend more time there, the founder complemented sketches of the layout penned by DAY’s shop designers with his ideas of what a combination of modern, ethnic and classic would look like if it lived in a mall on a waterfront with a mountain in close proximity.
