We recently produced new guides for shopping, dining out and general exploring so please make sure you pick one up from the Info Kiosk in Victoria Wharf or Watershed on your next visit. They are great to keep on your fridge or in your bedside drawer, to be called upon when you’re planning the weekend.
On that note, here is an extract from our activity guide with six firm favourites to keep at the back of your mind as you plan your Summer adventures…
Its centuries-old history and unique nautical perspective make the V&A Waterfront a treasure trove of enlightening possibilities. From museums and historical guided tours to sealife (that’s life in the sea, not “selfie”) encounters at the world-renowned Two Oceans Aquarium, it’s a paradise for the curious mind.
By the way, this place is also a paradise for the selfie loving mind too, which we know most of you already know. Big Brother is watching you on Instagram!
One: The Springbok Experience Rugby Museum
Over 64 audiovisual displays take visitors on an interactive journey through the compelling history of South African rugby. A must-see for all rugby enthusiasts, young and old.
Two: VIP Tour of Robben Island
This personalised trip offers the opportunity to learn about the World Heritage Site where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated. Choose to travel via luxurious 60-foot yacht, or by private helicopter.
Side Note – You can also just hop on the ferry. An embarrassing number of Capetonians have never visited Robben Island!
Three: Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa
Spread over nine floors in the historic 57m Grain Silo, when this museum opens doors in February 2017 it will be the most significant non-profit cultural institution on the continent. In the meantime, art aficionados can view impressive selections from the Zeitz Collection at the Zeitz MOCAA Pavilion.
Four: Two Oceans Aquarium
The incredible diversity of marine life found in both the Indian and Atlantic Oceans is showcased here. Get up close and personal with penguins, or dare to dive with predators. One of the whole family!
Five: Helicopter Highs
A range of helicopter tours – from Peninsula and Winelands flights to safari options – highlight Cape Town’s breathtaking beauty from the air.
Six: Chilled Charters
A whole fleet of vessels, from luxury catamarans to exhilarating jet boats, is yours for the choosing when you book a boat trip or special cruise with the V&A’s many ocean operators.
Here’s to a kick-ass Summer, filled with rich experiences!
