The Watershed – A work of art

The Watershed continues to be a bustling hub for quality African craft and design. It’s a space of innovation and creative culture with many of our visitors always mentioning how much they love the space because of its diverse products and amazing offering. On the topic of creativity, the Jubilee hall inside the Watershed is currently hosting Art Africa Fair, an art expo showcasing the work of some of Africa’s most talented contemporary artists that have brought a new wave of creative energy into the space. The Art Africa Fair continues until 5 March so make sure to visit the Watershed so you don’t miss out on this amazing showcase. After you’ve bathed in the atmosphere of creativity, make sure to pick a few unique items from the below Watershed retailers and the many others available.

Art in the Forest:
Art in the Forest specializes in proudly South African contemporary signature ceramics. Their forestware is conceptualized by Anthony Shapiro and manufactured in their beautiful studio overlooking the Constantia Valley, where skills’ training is their core mission. Besides forestware, the store is carefully curated with a handful of other South African ceramists work.

Master Wires and Bead Craft
Bishop (owner & crafter) has perfected the art of beading and crafting wire to a point that he can provide you with designs of your own choice and colour. Many of his designs have been developed to function as unique lampshades.

Zizamele Ceramics
Creators of the original handmade and hand painted Bambanani Bowl. The Bambanani Bowl or Ubuntu Bowl is their signature product. This is a “Friendship Bowl” which is thrown on a pottery wheel and has a number of handmade clay figures attached around the rim of the bowl.

Dennis Maguma Wooden Carvings
Dennis has been showcasing jacaranda carvings as a unique economic and environmental alternative to the use of indigenous endangered wooden species. The carving ideas are influenced by his interactions with local and international clients.

Waterfront Woodturners
Unique hand-crafted turned-art items by top Western Cape turners. From a wide range of indigenous & exotic woods. Revel in the feel of our woods, both local and exotic and take home a superbly finished item which is unique in both design and craftsmanship. A must for all who enjoy the warmth and tactile qualities of something as close to nature as wood.
